Hiscox and Richard Thompson Insurance Brokers support new

LONDON (20th November 2013) – Specialist global insurer Hiscox and fine art broker Richard Thompson Insurance have teamed up to support an innovative new online insurance facility for art and collectibles, Insure My Stuff.

Insure My Stuff offers cover for a wide range of art, antiques and collectables – from toys to old master paintings.  The site provides immediate insurance cover for collections up to £250,000, with policy documents available to view and download from the user’s own secure ‘My Stuff’ account, while collections valued over that amount can be brokered offline by Richard Thompson Insurance.

The Insure My Stuff policy provides all risks, worldwide cover for over 58 categories of art and collectables including paintings, porcelain and ceramics, silverware and music or sporting memorabilia.  It can be accessed directly or via online valuation service Value My Stuff, also part of the ‘My Stuff’ brand.

Robert Read, Head of Fine Art at Hiscox, commented: “For straightforward risks, the site is a quick and easy way to access specialist cover.”

Alexander Rich, Head of Fine Art at Richard Thompson Insurance Brokers, said: “We have been insuring art and collectables for years and we know how valuable collections are to our clients.  Creating an online, instant and affordable collector’s policy makes this insurance available to everyone.”

Insure My Stuff is founded by Patrick van der Vorst, a former Director and auctioneer at Sotheby’s.  Patrick appeared on BBC’s Dragons' Den in 2010 and secured investment from Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden, both of which are still hands-on with the business.

He added: “Insure My Stuff is an exciting next step on the ‘My Stuff’ journey.  It is supported by our team of 62 ex-Sotheby’s and Christie’s valuation experts as well as Hiscox and Richard Thompson Insurance Brokers, who we chose to work with as a result of their proven track record in the fine art market.”
