Art for all
Since the Whitechapel Gallery re-opened in 2009 following a major expansion, Hiscox has supported its programme of collection displays. The works on display are sourced alternately from public and private collections.
Summer 2012 saw the Gallery showcasing highlights from the Government Art Collection, which totals 13,500 paintings, sculptures and other works of art dating from the 16th century to the present day. It proved to be one of the Galleries most visited exhibitions.
In Autumn 2012 the Gallery commenced a series of exhibitions presenting important works of art from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection. It opened with a display dedicated to the works of Maurizio Cattelan in September.
From Autumn 2013 works under the ownership of member museums and galleries of the Contemporary Arts Society took centre-stage for a year-long series of displays. To view information on this latest collection see Whitechapel Collection.
“Hiscox’s support enables us to unlock rarely seen private and public collections so that they can be seen and enjoyed by nearly half a million visitors every year, entirely for free,” says Head of Development at the Gallery. “We are thrilled that Hiscox have renewed this invaluable support to 2015 and we look forward to presenting fascinating and important collections in partnership with them in the years ahead.”
