Bermuda Senior Islander’s Centre
The Bermuda Senior Islander’s Centre (BSIC) has been helping the island’s elderly citizens for over 30 years. Since it began, at least 18 other senior clubs have emerged out of this ‘umbrella’ club. For the second year in a row Hiscox sponsored the BSIC’s annual tea for over 250 seniors. We provided the food and prizes for a raffle, while 14 of our staff served the seniors.
Eliza Dolittle Society
This organisation’s goal is to feed the hungry in Bermuda. Hiscox bought a van for the society to carry out its Daily Bread Programme, where it collects surplus food from restaurants and prepares the food to serve to the needy at various locations across the island. Several Hiscox staff members volunteer, help with fundraising or donate part of their monthly salary to the society.
The WindReach Recreational Village is a community facility that aims to enrich the lives of people with a range of physical disabilities and learning difficulties. Hiscox paid the operational costs of the therapeutic petting zoo for one year and also bought five sports wheelchairs that have allowed many people to play adaptive basketball and take part in wheelchair racing for the first time.
Centre Against Abuse
The Centre Against Abuse is a registered charity in Bermuda, that provides intervention, support and education to all on relationship abuse, which is a pattern of unwanted behavior (e.g, physical, verbal, emotional, etc.) that is used to gain and maintain power and control in a relationship. Our mission at Hiscox is to provide shelter, support, and tools for those involved in relationship abuse; and to create abuse free advocates for an abuse free community through education and prevention.
Women's Resource Centre
This organisation has offered counselling and support to Bermuda victims of domestic violence for over three decades. It has a Safe House – the only one of its kind on the island – for abused women and their children to seek refuge. Hiscox bought a van for its staff to transport these people to the Safe House safely and discreetly and collect goods donated to the Safe House.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda
BBBS Bermuda is a mentoring program dedicated to helping children and youth, primarily from single parent homes, realize their potential by facilitating the development of long-term one-to-one relationships. Our goal is to create and support one-on-one relationships between caring mentors and young people in need. Through these consistent, long-term relationships with positive role models, our young people, who are primarily from single parent homes, are able to measurably enhance their emotional, social, and recreational well-being and reach their full potential.
