Hiscox sponsors African-Caribbean Insurance Network

Hiscox is proud to announce its silver sponsorship of the African-Caribbean Insurance Network (ACIN) in the UK, which will support existing diversity efforts. This partnership will focus on community engagement, talent attraction and networking, and affirms our commitment to taking tangible action to improve racial equality in the insurance industry.

The ACIN aims to boost black and minority ethnic representation within insurance through its work on industry-focused research, graduate recruitment, internships and work experience as well as networking and events.

Hiscox is committed to increasing racial diversity across the organisation, including improving representation at senior levels. This partnership is one of a range of practical measures being taken to broaden our search for talent and reach a more diverse pool of candidates, including candidates for our annual internship and graduate programmes. By promoting not only Hiscox but also the wider insurance industry at careers fairs, the ambition is to increase the number of young black and ethnic minority students considering a career in the insurance industry.

Kate Markham, Chief Executive of Hiscox London Market and Executive Sponsor of Diversity & Inclusion at Hiscox, said: “Our sponsorship of the African-Caribbean Insurance Network represents part of a redoubling of our efforts to make insurance a career of choice for black and ethnic communities, and we’re proud to support the vital work the network is doing in this space.

It is our firm belief that in order for Hiscox to succeed, our talent pool must reflect all sections of society fairly, and our business must enable everyone to have an equal opportunity to thrive.  We are committed to working together within Hiscox and with key partners to build something better for all.”

Junior Garba, Co-Founder of the African-Caribbean Insurance Network, said: “The ACIN is delighted to welcome Hiscox on board as our first Silver Sponsor. Hiscox has taken notable strides towards improving diversity and inclusion within their organisation, and their sponsorship of the ACIN will now help to reinforce racial inclusivity, not just in their organisation but also within the wider insurance market.”

Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) at Hiscox

At Hiscox ensuring diversity and inclusion at all levels of the business is a top priority and we’ve had an Executive sponsor for D&I since 2017. We have a solid framework of policies in place that guide inclusive behaviour, from formal policies that keep us accountable to toolkits and guidance for employees.

We want to build a connected community that reflects our people and our customers; across the Group we now have 11 established employee network chapters with over 1,000 members combined, including LGBT+, Pan-African and WeMind, our mental health and well-being network.

D&I is embedded in our recruitment processes, succession planning and talent development plans; we use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to help us create more diverse candidate shortlists for roles, and more than 60% of our people managers have now received unconscious bias training.  We know that in order to succeed in our competitive environment, where roles are appointed on the basis of merit and merit alone, we must level the playing field to ensure everyone has the chance to get on and grow with us.
