Communities

We believe that our business can help support the communities of which we are part and that the benefits of being a good corporate citizen go far beyond the bottom line.

We encourage all of our employees to give back to our communities, and many of our staff take time out of the day job to do just that, from reading and mentoring through schemes at local schools in and around the City of London, to taking part in our Bermuda team’s annual beach clean.

There’s always something for everyone to get involved with to support a chosen cause with time or donations.

Hiscox Gives

Our Hiscox Gives charity initiative supports charities chosen by local employees for offices across the Group and aims to raise awareness and encourage volunteering among staff.

By supporting causes aligned with our values, Hiscox Gives aims to create meaningful volunteering opportunities for our employees and helps to raise funds for their chosen charities.

We’ve had a York versus Colchester fundraising race to see who can cover the greatest distance on treadmills and exercise bikes – as well as bake sales, quizzes and race nights to name just a few.

The Hiscox Foundation

We support a range of social and humanitarian initiatives through the Hiscox Foundation, a charity funded by an annual donation from the Group. During 2017, the Foundation in the UK and USA donated a total of £182,000 to a range of charities chosen by our employees.

As well as team activities, any of our employees can apply to the Foundation, to match funds raised or ask for support for a good cause, amounting to over £51,000 in matched donations last year. The Foundation’s policy is to contribute principally to activities in areas that are close to our hearts and align with our values and strategy.

In the UK and in the USA, the Foundation focuses on supporting charities that aid and improve education, science, advancement of the arts and culture, children’s rights and that provide services to disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.

Among the many charities to which our people have contributed their time and the Foundation have supported with donations include:

UK

The Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART), providing aid and ‘a voice for the voiceless’, the most oppressed and persecuted people in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Richard House, a hospice in East London, which provides much-needed respite and terminal care for young people in the UK.

USA

The Drake House in Atlanta, Friends of Karen in New York, the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago, Project Angel Food in LA and Food Runners in San Francisco.

Parris foundation, an organisation dedicated to helping disenfranchised communities by teaching children about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
