Lili Reynaud-Dewar’s practice explores the interaction and tension between the public and private spheres. The relationship between context and individual are key to her approach: how do we define ourselves? In relation to what? With which communities do we ally ourselves, and at what price? What forces shape us, and to what end? What happens when we contest them? What can we do to stand out, to be unique? These questions underlie Reynaud-Dewar’s work, the focus of which shifts between her own life (and those of members of her family and friends) and that of subjects drawn from historical avant-gardes.
We were introduced to Reynaud-Dewar while she was an MFA student at the Glasgow School of Fine Art, a programme that Hiscox sponsored from 2003. Since then has gone on to receive international acclaim which culminated in a retrospective at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Her work is included in the collections of MOMA, NY; Pompidou, Paris; and Pinault Borse, among others.
