The Knots that Bind are the Knots that Fray' consists of seven digital frames playing found footage of a defunct ship-building crane leaving an English shipyard – on its way to being dismantled at an Indian shipyard. The slow movement of the crane across a misty riverscape symbolises a reversal of the old global relationships that formerly existed between countries such as India, and her former colonial master, Britain. The piece was originally commissioned for Raqs Media Collective’s solo exhibition at the BALTIC Centre in Newcastle, in 2010.
