Junk 1-5, 2014

Keith Coventry’s 'Junk’ series are inspired by the McDonald's iconic golden arches. Details of the crumpled remains of McDonald’s wrappers are cropped and positioned with the rectangle of the print in such a way that they resemble Russian Constructivist compositions. Sharing a similar palette of red, yellow and blue, the McDonald;s logo is transo In these prints, Coventry takes details of the  iconic golden arches, crops it, rotates and blows it out of scale, and thereby transforming it into constructivist compositions. In an interview with Whitechapel Gallery director Iwona Blazwick in 2008, Coventry said: "I wanted to present them [the Junk Series] as Suprematist-looking objects, using the colours red, yellow and blue. I like this idea that capitalism can consume anything, that McDonalds can consume Suprematism. No matter what you do to react against it, it just welcomes it with open arms and says 'let's make some money from it.
