Yto Barrada’s photographs, films, publications, installations, and sculptures focus on the everyday life and landscape of Tangier, her hometown situated on the Strait of Gibraltar. Her practice is influenced by socio-political issues, and her interests range from the tension around borders, immigration, tourism and the urban landscape. This textile uses dye made from plants grown at The Mothership, her Tangier-based natural dye garden, eco-feminist research centre and artist residency which opened to the public in 2023.
