Wunderkammer (small), 1990s

Eduardo Paolozzi was one of the most innovative and irreverent artists of the 20th century. Considered the ‘godfather of Pop Art’, his sculptures and prints challenged artistic convention, from the 1950s through to the Swinging Sixties and the advent of ‘Cool Britannia’ in the 1990s. Wunderkammer (small) is a cabinet filled with an assortment of plaster cast sculptures, ranging from toy cars to trinkets to torsos. Paolozzi's sculptures often involved the use of found objects. Sometimes these objects would simply be cast, at other times they were chopped up and reassembled, or individually coloured by the artist.
