Hiscox London Market boosts Casualty team to drive Management Liability growth in the US and international lines

London (27th November 2013) – Specialist global insurer Hiscox continues to boost its Casualty team – appointing three high profile underwriters with extensive Management Liability experience to work with Chris Warrior to build the US and international books of business.

As previously announced, Chris Warrior joins the insurer from Beazley, where he was integral to the development of its global D&O account.  He started his career in the Lloyd’s market in 1983, where he specialised in D&O Liability and Financial Institution’s coverage – initially as a broker before moving to underwriting in 1996.  Chris has more than 30 years’ experience not only in the D&O sector but also the broader Management Liability and Professional Lines product segment.  Reporting to Hiscox’s Head of Casualty, Neil Bolton, Chris will be responsible for establishing its US and international Management Liability business.

Chris will be supported by three expert Line Underwriters, all of which are also new hires:

  • Gary Lill, who spent nine years at Zurich working on their US Commercial and Financial D&O book.  Most recently, though, Gary was a Senior Vice President at AWAC and managed the D&O, PI and W&I product lines in Europe where he was responsible for a team of 16 underwriters and support staff.
  • Suresh Ellawala, who joins Hiscox from QBE where he was product leader for D&O and POSI. Suresh is a fully qualified solicitor and prior to QBE spent four years as Assistant Vice President for Financial Lines with AIG.
  • Julian Martin, who joins from Willis where he was an Executive Director with responsibility for  the Global D&O practice including the coordination of the placement  of a range of Commercial and Financial D&O, POSI, E&O, Crime and EPL accounts.  Prior to that he co-founded JLT’s Financial Lines team and was at Marsh where he was Managing Director of the Global D&O Practice in London.

Gary, Suresh and Julian will commence work at Hiscox in early 2014.

Additional support to the underwriting team is provided by Adrian Lewthwaite, who joins Hiscox from LV= and has extensive experience in Management Liability. He also spent several years working in the personal lines area where his process and service orientated background will assist in the development of a differentiated offering.

Bolton commented: “We see real opportunity for profitable growth in Management Liability both within the US and international markets, and have established a world class team to enable us to realise our ambitions.”
