Jim Lambie’s work is loaded with references to popular culture, art history and music. Working with items immediately at hand, as well as those sourced in second-hand and hardware stores, he resurrects record decks, speakers, clothing, accessories, doors and mirrors to make striking and colourful installations and sculptures. Music is an ongoing source of inspiration in Lambie’s practice. Somebody to Love features an iconic image of the legendary musician Freddie Mercury showered by a college of blooming flowers.
