    During their first week at Hiscox, the Hiscox London Market apprentices spent a day helping out at Richard House. Lauren Pearson one of our apprentices outlines the day and also how to get involved in supporting this vital charity.

    I am one of the seven London Market apprentices who all joined Hiscox in September 2016.

    During our first week at Hiscox we were given the opportunity of spending the day at Richard House, a charity that Hiscox have supported for many years. For those that aren’t familiar with Richard House they are a children’s hospice that offer clinical care, short breaks and other residential services to children and young adults, while supporting their families  through counselling, therapy, bereavement and more.

    During our time there we helped out in their gardens, cleaning up and weeding. They have several acres of land that are all tended to by a retired school teacher called Derek who volunteers part time, with a vast majority of his gardening equipment and plants having been gifted as donations.

    After our day there we decided that we really wanted to do something to help not only the hospice, but create a space that the children and their families could create fond memories in. We spoke to Derek, and he filled us with many ideas about what him and the children would love to see in the gardens. So, we have decided to undertake the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Thursday 13th April 2017 – this involves a 40km trek up 5,200 feet of mountains in under 12 hours. Funds raised will be put towards;

    • Renovating the pre-existing beach zone; he hopes to create a “sea” area, get a larger boat for the children to play in and get themed toys. Sadly many of the children in the hospice will never be able to visit the seaside, so this is the closest they would get.
    • Work on the woodland area of the garden, adding new wooden animals for the children to play with.

    We would greatly appreciate any donations, and thank you all in advanced for them. Hiscox have kindly agreed to match the first £2,000 that we raise, so we have set ourselves a target of raising £5,000 which would make an enormous difference.

    Once again, we thank you all for your support & look forward to being able to give something great to the children & their families at Richard House!

    Kind Regards,

    The Hiscox London Market Apprentices!
